About
Aimee K. Heslop is a resident of Columbus, Ohio, where she attended The Ohio State University completing her BFA degree in dance spring of 2014. She is also a pre-physical therapy student. Aimee has been dancing since she was 3 years old and has experience in contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap, pointe, hip-hop, West African, and modern dance forms. Aimee is a performer, dance educator, and choreographer. She has experience in both commercial dance and concert dance. She teaches dance classes and choreographs for several studios in Columbus.
Aimee has performed in a variety of dance department productions at The Ohio State University including Dance Uptown: DIRT (choreography by Esther Baker-Tarpaga), Dance Downtown: The Hendrix Redox (choreography by Bebe Miller), and Winter Concert: Shifting Focus. Aimee has trained in weight studies with Vicky Blaine, taken contemporary dance technique with Susan Hadley, and studied improvisation with Esther Baker-Tarpaga. She recently studied dance and music in Brazil for a summer and gained knowledge of dance in other cultures.
Her current research focuses on working with recovered oncology children in the dance studio. She teaches these children free dance classes weekly. She volunteers at Dodd Rehabilitation Center, Martha Moorehouse Medical Plaza, and Stefanie Spielman Breast Center in Columbus, Ohio. Her work here involves researching how dance and the arts can be used in the physical therapy process as rehabilitation for the body.
She looks forward to moving to San Francisco to build her career as a professional dancer. She also aspires to attend graduate school in the future for physical therapy to receive her DPT. Aimee’s aim is to be involved in the dance scene both on and off the stage through her embodied movement practices and her future work in the clinical field using dance in physical therapy.
